Why doesn’t Just Thrive Probiotic contain any Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium species?

If you’ve been reading up on probiotics, you’ve likely read about Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains. These are the strains that most commercial probiotics contain, including the probiotic strains you’ll find in yogurt and other fermented foods. Both Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species have been shown to improve gut health and to help alleviate some digestive issues. So why doesn’t Just Thrive Probiotic contain these strains?

Quick Answer: Just Thrive Probiotic leaves out Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium because those strains have poor survivability: most are destroyed by stomach acid before they reach the gut. Studies suggest over 99% of the probiotic bacteria in yogurt do not survive early digestion. Just Thrive instead uses spore-forming Bacillus strains that are designed to survive the harsh acidic stomach environment and arrive in the gut intact, so the dose you pay for actually reaches where it works. The Bacillus strains also produce antioxidant carotenoids directly in the gut, where they are more easily absorbed than antioxidants taken in pill form.

Why Does Probiotic Survivability Matter?

Survivability matters because a probiotic only works if it reaches the gut alive. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium have poor survivability, so most of the bacteria are killed in the stomach before they ever get there.

Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species can have a positive impact on gut health but getting them into your gut can be a problem. Unfortunately, these probiotic strains don’t have great survivability. This means that when you eat them in food or take them as a supplement, most of the probiotics are killed in your stomach and don’t make it to where they’re really needed in your gut.

It may surprise you to learn that when you eat yogurt, over 99% of the probiotic bacteria in the yogurt don’t survive the early part of digestion. Likewise, many cheap, low quality probiotic supplements contain strains that are also almost entirely killed in the harsh acidic environment of the stomach and the first part of the small intestine. If the probiotics don’t actually make it to your gut, why are you wasting your money on them?

Just Thrive Probiotic is different. The unique probiotic strain that we use in our product has 100% survivability, which means that all of the probiotic that you’re paying for is making it to the right place in your gut. You’re getting all of the health benefits of your probiotic, including reduced gastrointestinal distress, a stronger immune system, and improved mood.

Even better, Just Thrive contains the only clinically-proven probiotic strains that are healing leaky gut within 30 days.

Does Your Probiotic Produce Antioxidants?

The Bacillus strains in Just Thrive produce antioxidant compounds called carotenoids directly in your gut, which Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains do not. Producing them on site means they are more easily absorbed than antioxidants taken in pill form.

The probiotic strains in Just Thrive Probiotic also produce helpful antioxidants, unlike Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains. Once in your gut, the good gut microbes in Just Thrive Probiotic start to produce antioxidant compounds called carotenoids. Antioxidants can help prevent cellular damage and reduce inflammation.

Yes, these carotenoids, such as beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, can be taken in pill form. But, when they’re taken as a pill, most of the antioxidants are digested so they can’t be absorbed by your body. That’s where Just Thrive Probiotic has other supplements beat. The probiotics in Just Thrive produce their antioxidants directly in your gut where they’re more easily absorbed. That means the antioxidants can actually do the work your body needs.

If you’re going to take a probiotic, why not take one that will not only help with digestive issues, but will give you additional health benefits, too? You’ll get so much more from the high quality probiotic strains in Just Thrive Probiotic than you would from a probiotic containing Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium strains.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't Just Thrive contain Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium?
Those strains have poor survivability and are mostly destroyed by stomach acid before reaching the gut. Just Thrive uses spore-forming Bacillus strains built to survive digestion and arrive where they are needed.

Do Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium have any benefit?
Yes. Both species have been shown to support gut health and help with some digestive issues. The challenge is getting enough of them past the stomach and into the gut alive.

How much of the probiotics in yogurt survive digestion?
According to the article, over 99% of the probiotic bacteria in yogurt do not survive the early part of digestion, so very little reaches the gut.

What are carotenoids and why do they matter here?
Carotenoids are antioxidant compounds such as beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. The Bacillus strains in Just Thrive produce them directly in the gut, where they are more easily absorbed than the same antioxidants taken in pill form.

What strains does Just Thrive use instead?
Just Thrive is built on spore-forming Bacillus strains, which are chosen for their high survivability and their ability to produce beneficial compounds in the gut.
