Staying Healthy When Your Immune System is Compromised

You’re constantly exposed to germs. And when your immune system works the way it’s supposed to, most of those germs get addressed before they can balloon into full-on health challenges.

But if your immune system doesn’t work optimally, you become more susceptible to anything that’s going around, and can sometimes develop long-term chronic conditions. You may feel sick, tired, achy, stressed a lot of the time, and maybe even a little concerned and/or scared as well.

When you’re immunocompromised (your immune system does too little) or have autoimmune issues (your immune system does too much), you have to give your body lots of extra support so it can keep you safe and healthy.

And since your gut microbiome (the trillions of bacteria that live in your gut) houses 70% of your immune system, keeping your gut in healthy balance is especially critical.

A Healthy Immune Response

When your immune system works properly, it responds to threats quickly and effectively so it can prevent most health challenges from taking hold.

Every day, you come into contact with infectious substances called, “antigens” which trigger an alarm for your immune system. As soon as that alarm sounds, your immune system springs into action and sends out immunoglobulins (also known as antibodies) to fight the foreign substances.

Your immune system produces a few different types of immunoglobulins, but the most important is Immunoglobulin G, or IgG.  IgG antibodies constantly search your body for germs so they can catch them before you get sick. In fact, nearly 80% of all the germ-fighters in your body are IgG antibodies – that’s how crucial they are for your continued good health.

Unfortunately, millions of people struggle with immune systems that function at the extremes. In some cases, the immune system under-reacts and can’t effectively fight infections. In other instances, the immune system overreacts and actually causes illness. Both of those extremes can lead to severe health issues…

When Your Immune System Under-reacts

If you’re immunocompromised – also called immunodeficient – your immune system isn’t strong enough to protect you against infections. That can make you get sick more frequently or take longer than usual to fight off infections. Many factors can weaken the immune system, including:

  • Bacterial and viral infections
  • Environmental toxins
  • Chronic stress
  • Aging
  • Some autoimmune conditions (like rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Malnutrition
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Transplant (anti-rejection) drugs
  • Steroids
  • Medications (called immunosuppressants) that treat autoimmune diseases
  • Pregnancy

When you are immunocompromised, your body doesn’t make enough antibodies – the special immune cells – like the IgG (immunoglobulin G) – that respond to infectious bacteria and viruses (collectively called antigens). And without a substantial supply of antibodies, it’s much more difficult to avoid or recover from infections.

When Your Immune System Overreacts

With autoimmune conditions, your immune system overreacts and mistakenly attacks your own healthy cells.

Immune systems that function properly can tell the difference between cells that belong and invaders that don’t. But with autoimmune conditions, the immune system confuses your body’s cells with foreign cells. That internal cellular battle that follows can cause significant damage to your cells, tissues, and organs, and make it much harder to live a normal life.

Autoimmune conditions can cause a wide variety of symptoms, but the most common include fatigue, painful muscles and joints, frequent low-grade fevers, and digestive issues.

There are more than 80 autoimmune diseases, but most of them are rare. The more common autoimmune diseases include:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Psoriasis
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Celiac disease
  • Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

The key to dealing with an autoimmune condition: Enabling the immune system to operate at optimal and balanced levels to keep it from overreacting.

And those optimal and balanced signals start in the gut.

Your Gut Helps Your Immune System Respond the Right Way

Healthy immune systems are all about balance: They react properly when facing legitimate threats, then call off the attack once the immediate threat has passed.

Your gut microbiome plays a critical part here. The bacteria in your gut influence immune system function, down to determining which infection-fighting cells get produced.  Your bacteria also help your immune system stay in balance, which in turn helps you stay well…

But only if your gut microbiome is made up of the right bacteria...

A healthy gut microbiome is made up of beneficial bacteria (probiotics) that vastly outnumber harmful bacteria (pathogens). When in proper numbers, probiotic bacteria have a highly positive influence on immune system balance, and support immune function in several ways:

  • Getting rid of invading pathogens
  • Preventing infectious pathogens from colonizing
  • Producing anti-inflammatory compounds
  • Producing essential nutrients

When the gut microbiome falls out of balance, and harmful bacteria outnumber probiotic bacteria, the effects on the immune system can be devastating. That imbalance can increase your vulnerability to infections, decrease your body’s ability to fight infections, and even trigger over-reactive autoimmune responses.

That’s why it’s critically important to keep your gut microbiome in healthy balance – especially if your immune system is already struggling to keep you safe and well.

And the best way to do that is by providing your gut with a steady supply of spore probiotics… and selectively nourishing those beneficial bacteria with their favorite prebiotic foods.

PRObiotics and PREbiotics Form a Healthy Gut Microbiome

Your gut microbiome needs both spore probiotics and precision prebiotics to get, and stay, in healthy balance.

Spore probiotics survive through extreme environments – like your digestive system – to arrive 100% alive and ready to recondition and rebalance your gut. They quickly get to work eliminating harmful bacteria to make more room for other probiotics to grow and flourish.

Precision prebiotics, special types of dietary fiber, feed only beneficial bacteria. These prebiotics supply the raw materials probiotics need to create healthy compounds like short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) that maintain a healthy inflammatory response and support immune function.

Spore probiotics and precision prebiotics help your body form a healthy gut microbiome, but with all the daily internal and external stressors our bodies face, sometimes it needs additional support. That’s where IgG comes in…

Add IgG to Support and Balance Your Defenses

When your immune system malfunctions, your body doesn’t create enough IgG antibodies. Low levels of IgG can make you more likely to get sick, to stay sick longer, and suffer from immune overreactions.

When your body’s own IgG supplies seem to be running low, you can replenish them with special immunoglobulin supplements.

This IgG boost can help your immune system fight off germs more effectively. Plus, IgG also helps your immune system operate more intelligently and distinguish when not to attack so it can avoid overreacting.

IgG supplements help your immune system respond the right way at the right time to keep you in better health by:

  • >>Neutralizing and removing germs and toxins
  • >>Increasing tolerant immune cells, which know how to tell the difference >>between your cells and foreign cells.
  • >>Decreasing inflammatory immune cells
  • >>Supporting healthy intestinal function
  • >>Helping increase the enzymes that release nutrients from food
  • >>Fortifying the protective gut barrier
  • >Keeping the gut microbiome in healthy balance
