Dr. Andrew Campbell on “The Amazing Vitamin K2”

“The Amazing Vitamin K2” by Andrew W. Campbell, M.D.

Now there is solid help for heart disease and osteoporosis.

Vitamin K’s main role and function is modifying proteins to so that they can have the ability to bind to calcium. Calcium is a mineral that is incredibly important for us all. It helps us build our bones and our teeth and it is an essential mineral necessary for life.

There are two forms of vitamin K: K1 and K2. Vitamin K1 is the nutrient that helps in blood clotting so people don’t bleed easily. We get our supply of vitamin K1 from eating plant based foods, mainly leafy greens.

The number one cause of death worldwide and in the United States is cardiovascular disease. In America, this translates to 600,000 deaths per year. Now, finally, we have a vitamin that we can take that is an outstanding preventive measure, namely vitamin K2.

If you jog a mile or play soccer for an hour, you will feel your legs muscles getting tired. If you shoot a basketball for an hour or swing a bat or golf club for an hour, you will feel the same type of muscle fatigue in your arms. After any type of exercise, it’s time to rest the muscles you used. But there is a muscle that works all the time, day and night, and never rests: your heart. The average person’s heart beats 80 times per minute, or 115,200 times a day. In one year, that amounts to 42,048,000 times! And if you have lived 80 years, your heart has beaten over 3 billion times. No rest, no breaks, not even for a second. It just keeps beating, pumping blood to all your body. As blood travels through your blood vessels, all 100,000 miles of them, it brings needed oxygen and nutrients to the cells and carries away waste products. As most of us know, the coronary arteries bring oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle to keep it pumping blood and calcium build-up in the coronary arteries is a massive risk factor for heart disease. Anything that can reduce the calcium in these essential arteries helps prevent heart disease. This is where vitamin K2 steps in: it helps prevent calcium build up from being deposited there, lowering the risk of deadly heart disease and heart attack. In a study conducted over 7 to 10 years in Rotterdam, Holland, those people who had the highest intake of vitamin K2 had a 57% lower risk of dying from heart disease. That’s almost 2/3 less risk, a very impressive number! In another published study of 16,057 women, those that had the highest intake of vitamin K2 had a much lower risk of heart disease.

Vitamin K2 has another important function for women: bone health. As stated above, vitamin K2 plays an essential and vital role in how our body uses calcium. Osteoporosis is a common problem among postmenopausal women, especially in Western countries, but also in China, Brazil, and Australia. It greatly raises the risk of bone fractures. Vitamin K2 activates the calcium binding activity of two proteins that help build and preserve bone health. Several studies have demonstrated the benefits of taking vitamin K2. There were reductions of all fractures by 81%: that is quite an achievement! Due to these compelling studies, the government of Japan officially recommends vitamin K2 for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

Vitamin K2 is unique in that it prevents two major afflictions in our society: heart disease and osteoporosis. By simply taking Just Thrive Vitamin K2-7 you can help yourself and your loved ones.
